PACIFIC OCEAN (Sept. 4, 2022) - A U.S. Marine Corps F-35B Lighting II pilot with Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 122, 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, prepares to take off from amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), Sept. 4. A force in readiness, the 13th MEU trains to rapidly respond to crises in all domain environments through naval power projection. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, comprised of amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) and amphibious transport docks USS Anchorage (LPD 23) and USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26), is underway conducting integrated training operations with the 13th MEU in the U.S. 3rd Fleet to prepare for an upcoming deployment. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl.
