Private 1st Class James Small, a member of the New Hampshire National Guard Volunteer Search and Rescue Team, attempts to operate a Garmin GPS during an annual training event with Fish and Game, State Police and other VSAR teams from throughout NH, at Cannon Mountain, in Franconia, NH, Sept. 10.
Small, mechanic with the 3643rd Brigade Support Battalion, 197th Field Artillery Brigade, said he feels this volunteer opportunity is a way he can give back to his community.
“I love New Hampshire and I love the people here,” said Small. “It’s part of my responsibility to give back to them because they’ve given me such a beautiful place to live.”
