U.S. Navy Aviation Electrician’s Mate 3rd Class John Duncan directs an MH-60S SeaHawk, assigned to Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 22, conducting pre-flight checks on the flight deck of the amphibious transport dock ship USS Mesa Verde (LPD 19) in support of Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force UNITAS LXIII, Sept. 6, 2022. The helicopters were being launched to ferry U.S. Marines and their equipment ashore during exercise UNITAS LXIII. UNITAS is the world’s longest-running annual multinational maritime exercise that focuses on enhancing interoperability among multiple nations and joint forces during littoral and amphibious operations in order to build on existing regional partnerships and create new enduring relationships that promote peace, stability and prosperity in the U.S. Southern Command’s area of responsibility.
