Engravings shine off of a newly presented sword that was handmade by 374th Maintenance Squadron metals technology craftsman, during a presentation to the 374th Airlift Wing Commander in preparation for the 2022 Air Force Ball unveiling at Yokota Air Base, Japan, Sept. 15, 2022. Smith volunteered over three weeks’ worth of time to create the ceremonial sword. Col. James I. Baginski, former 374th Tactical Airlift Wing commander, made the former ceremonial sword at Clark Air Base, Philippines in 1974 in memory of fellow Airlifters who lost their lives in defense of freedom.
