A U.S. Marine Corps MV-22B Osprey crew chief with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 265
scans the landing zone during a Helicopter Rope Suspension Techniques (HRST) Master Course at
Landing Zone Sterling, Okinawa, Japan, Sept. 9, 2022. Fast roping allows Marines to enter landing
zones that are too dangerous for helicopters to safely land. Fast rope and helicopter rope
suspension training teach Marines proper knots, rappelling techniques, and build confidence for
