Kawakahi Amina, Logistics Science and Technology Lead, U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, briefs distinguished visitors on the Atmospheric Portable-water Sustainment Unit and Lightweight Water Purification System at Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Sept. 30, 2022. The combination of the APSU and LWPS bolster the 3d MLR’s logistical power by desalinating ocean water and taking in the atmospheric humidity and condensing it to potable water. Portable-water sustainment paired with 21st century foraging concepts enable commanders to extend and enhance operational rations for a period without needing outside logistics support.
