Sailors assigned to the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) participate in a series of damage control evolutions, known as Damage Control Olympics, aboard the ship in Newport News, Virginia, Oct. 5, 2022. George Washington is conducting a simulated underway to validate shipboard habitability and operational services to ensure the ship meets final refueling and complex overhaul (RCOH) milestones. RCOH is a multi-year project performed only once during a carrier’s 50-year service life that includes refueling the ship’s two nuclear reactors, as well as significant repairs, upgrades, and modernization.
