Sparky, the National Fire Protection Association mascot, rides into the fire prevention week proclamation signing on a firetruck at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida, Oct. 4, 2022. Sparky was named the official spokesman of the NFPA alongside Smokey the Bear in 1951. The mascot was created to be an approachable character to teach fire prevention at a young age.
