The U.S. Army awarded the Combat Action Badge for the first time in ceremonies Wednesday at the Pentagon. The new badge, designed to promote the Army Warrior Ethos, was awarded to five Soldiers for engaging enemy forces in combat. Any Soldier engaging the enemy since Sept. 18, 2001, is eligible to receive the badge. While previous combat badges recognized front-line efforts of Infantry and Medics, the new badge recognizes the reality of today's asymmetric, 360-degree battlefield.
