In honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month, Senior Master Sgt. Perla Tapia, 944th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron First Sergeant, dawns a Mexican flag over her shoulder Oct. 16, 2022 at Luke Air Force Base, Ariz. Tapia was born in Mexico and was undocumented. In search of a better life, she enlisted into the Air Force Reserve and became a naturalized citizen in 2011. National Hispanic Heritage Month is observed every year from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 to commemorate the contributions of Hispanic Americans to the United States of America’s history and culture.
