John Martin Reservoir park ranger Holly Garnett, forefront, and volunteers celebrate creating a path through tamarisk, an invasive species, to the Purgatoire River at the Black Bridge Recreation Area during the National Public Lands Day event there, Sept. 24, 2022. On Sept. 24 and 25, 2022, 21 volunteers from Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado, Rocky Mountain Field Institute, and members of the public joined four John Martin staff to remove invasive tamarisk from approximately 5 acres of the Black Bridge Recreation Area.
