CFAY Holds Groundbreaking Ceremony for New High School

YOKOSUKA, Japan (Oct. 24, 2022) – Dignitaries and guests from Commander, Navy Region Japan (CNRJ), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Gilbane Company, and the Department of Defense Education Activity’s Pacific region attend a traditional Jichinsai (groundbreaking) ceremony at Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka (CFAY), signaling the beginning of the construction of a new high school campus to replace the current Kinnick High School. The ceremony, which was administered by a Shinto priest before beginning construction, expresses wishes for safety and success during construction. For more than 75 years, Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka has provided, maintained, and operated base facilities and services in support of the U.S. 7th Fleet's forward-deployed naval forces, tenant commands, and thousands of military and civilian personnel and their families.
