Sunburst Youth Challenge Academy Class 30 Cadet Abigail Ramirez records an original rap as musician Jamie Ross, known as J. Ross, records her vocals during a Beats Lyrics Leaders conference, Oct. 21, 2022, at Joint Forces Training Base, Los Alamitos, California. Cadets spent the week immersed in arts education with visual art, music and dance mentors from Beats Lyrics Leaders. The program aimed to open students to the arts as a coping mechanism and path to self expression. Sunburst is a high school credit recovery program run in partnership between the California National Guard’s Task Force Torch youth and community programs directorate and the Orange County Department of Education.
