TONGYEONG, Republic of Korea - Sailors stationed at Commander, Fleet Activities Chinhae (CFAC) were invited to compete in a dragon boat rowing competition in the town of Tongyeong, Aug. 7. CFAC sailors made it to the finals of their division, finishing in third. The rowing competition was part of a larger festival that celebrates Adm. Yi Sun-sin’s great naval victory in 1592. The Battle of Hansan Island and follow engagement at Angolo took place from Jul. 8 - Aug. 15, 1592. In two naval encounters, Adm. Yi Sun-sin’s fleet destroyed roughly 100 Japanese ships and halted Japanese naval operations along the southern coast. (U.S. photo by Master-at-Arms 2nd Class Le McNeill/Released).
