1st Lt. Amanda Ortiz, U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF) completes the sled drag portion of the Expert Field Medical Badge (EFMB) fitness assessment in the early morning hours on Caserma Del Din, Vicenza, Italy, Nov. 5, 2022. The Department of the Army approved the EFMB, an award given only to field medical personnel, as recognition of exceptional competence and outstanding performance, on 18 June 1965. The E3B is a combined event that will test Soldier’s skills to achieve the Expert Infantry Badge, Expert Soldier Badge or the Expert Field Medical Badge. After two weeks of train-up, the candidates compete individually to achieve the badge in their respective testing event. This is the first E3B hosted at U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF) with competitors from 173rd Airborne Brigade, 509th Strategic Signal Battalion, U.S. Special Operations Command Africa, units from U.S. Army Europe and Africa Command and service members from Spain, Croatia and Italy.
