Niles VanTassell, from Marietta, Georgia, and Operations Specialist 1st Class Alexander Polk, from Nashville, Tennessee, monitor surface contacts from the combat information center (CIC) aboard Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Benfold (DDG 65) during a joint bilateral anti-submarine exercise, part of Keen Sword in the Philippine Sea, Nov. 8. Keen Sword is a biennial, joint and bilateral field-training exercise involving U.S. military and Japan Self-Defense Force personnel, designed to increase readiness and interoperability while strengthening the ironclad Japan-U.S. alliance.
