Retired U.S. Marine Corps Col. Harvey Barnum, a native of Cheshire, Connecticut, speaks to a fourth grade class at the Crossroads Elementary School, Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, Nov. 15, 2022. Barnum, a Medal of Honor recipient spoke to the students about the importance of courage, integrity, and commitment. Students have gathered, interpreted, and used evidence to research recipients of the Medal of Honor in order to explain how the recipient exemplified the values of the recognition. Barnum was the fourth Marine to earn the Medal of Honor for taking control of his unit under heavy enemy fire, and saving the lives of his Marines and Sailors during the Vietnam War.
