PHILIPPINE SEA (Nov. 14, 2022) Seaman Pa Lar from Lincoln, Nebraska, removes chocks and chains from an SH-60 helicopter attached to Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force Asahi-class destroyer JS Shiranui (DD 120) aboard Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Milius (DDG 69) while operating in the Philippine Sea during exercise Malabar 2022, Nov. 14. Milius is assigned to Commander, Task Force 71/Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 15, the Navy’s largest forward-deployed DESRON and the U.S. 7th Fleet’s principal surface force. Malabar 2022 is a Japan-led, surface, air, and subsurface multi-lateral field training exercise with the Indian Navy, Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, Royal Australian Navy and U.S. Navy. Malabar 2022 enhances interoperability between Australian, Indian, Japanese and U.S. maritime forces, strengthens the critical partnerships and demonstrates U.S. naval presence in the Indo-Pacific region.
