Gen. Daniel Hokanson, Chief of the National Guard Bureau, made a visit to Chicago Nov. 21, 2022. While in town, Gen. Hokanson met with Air Force Maj. Gen. Rich Neely, the Adjutant General of Illinois and Commander of the Illinois National Guard, Army Brig. Gen. Janeen Birckhead, Commander of the Maryland Army National Guard, and business leaders for a luncheon to discuss the skills National Guard service members bring to the workforce and how the National Guard can continue to work with businesses to strengthen the economy moving forward. Hokanson is the top military officer for the entire National Guard and a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He directly advises President Joe Biden and Secretary of Defense Lloyd James Austin.
