U.S. Army Sgt. Carl Bunes, a member of the Minnesota National Guard Funeral Honors team, guides the casket of U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Donald Duchene, and World War II service member killed in action during Operation Tidal Wave in 1943, into a funeral hearse during the planeside honors ceremony on Sept. 30, 2022. Since its inception in 2006, the Minnesota Military Funeral Honors team has conducted more than 55,000 funerals for veterans of all branches throughout the state of Minnesota. The 16 fulltime staff members serve in four locations throughout the state and have conducted 2,914 funerals and seven planeside honors in fiscal year 2022.
