The Marines with the Marine Security Guard Detachment at U.S. Embassy San Salvador, El Salvador, host a memorial ceremony and workout with the U.S. embassy community to pay tribute to their fallen brothers and build camaraderie with the community and the detachment on June 19, 2022. Since the birth of the Marine Security Guard Program in 1948, 12 MSGs have been killed in the line of duty. The Zona Rosa Attack accounts for one-third of all MSGs killed and represents the largest loss by any post in the history of the program, including Vietnam. On June 19, 1985, Staff Sgt. Bobby Joe Dickson, Staff Sgt. Thomas Handwork, Sgt. Gregory Weber, and Sgt. Patrick Kwiatkowski were assassinated in the Zona Rosa district of San Salvador, El Salvador.
