    A U.S. Marine with 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 1st Marine Division, reaches to open an adjacent hatch on an Amphibious Combat Vehicle during troop transfer and towing drills in protected waters as part of Steel Knight 23 at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California, Nov. 28, 2022. The battalion executed safety drills in preparation for ship-to-shore movements throughout the duration of the exercise. Steel Knight is an annual combined arms live-fire exercise that ensures 1st MARDIV is optimized for naval expeditionary warfare in contested spaces, and is purpose-built to facilitate future operations afloat and ashore.
