Members of the Northern Army, Japan Ground Self Defense Force, and the U.S. Army, 11th Airborne Division, conduct an opening ceremony to observe the official start of Exercise Yama Sakura 83 at Camp Higashi-Chitose, Japan, December 4, 2022. As a part of U.S. Army Pacific Operation Pathways, Yama Sakura 83 is the largest and most complex forward U.S. Army and JGSDF bilateral command post exercise to date. The goal of the exercise is to strengthen multi-domain and cross-domain interoperability and readiness between the U.S.-Japan alliance to ensure a free and open Indo-Pacific.
