A U.S. Marine Corps F-35B Lightning II with Marine Operational Test and Evaluation Squadron (VMX) 1 prepares to take off from a helicopter outlying landing field during exercise Steel Knight 23, on Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California, Dec. 8, 2022. VMX-1 demonstrated F-35B expeditionary advanced base capabilities through landings and take-offs at an austere airfield, and receiving fuel from a forward arming and refueling point set up by Marine Wing Support Squadron 372.
