PACIFIC OCEAN (Nov. 12, 2022) - U.S. Navy Sailors assigned to amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) prepare a UH-1Y Venom for takeoff during flight deck operations, Nov. 12, 2022. The ability to operate seamlessly and simultaneously on the sea, ashore, and in the air represents the unique value of the amphibious capability provided by the Navy-Marine Corps team. The 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit is embarked with the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, comprised of amphibious assault ship Makin Island and amphibious transport docks USS Anchorage (LPD 23) and USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26), conducting routine operations in U.S. 3rd Fleet. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Sgt. Nicolas Atehortua)
