GULF OF GUINEA (Oct. 15, 2022) – Sailors assigned to the expeditionary sea base USS Hershel “Woody” Williams (ESB 4) poses with the Angolan Navy and Congolese Navy of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Congo after completion of the Grand African Nemo exercise abroad Williams’ mission deck Oct. 15. Grand African Navy Exercise for maritime operations (NEMO) 2022 is an annual French-led regional naval exercise that enhances collective efforts to establish maritime security and stability in the Gulf of Guinea. Hershel “Woody” Williams is rotationally deployed to the U.S. Naval Forces Africa area of operations, employed by U.S. Sixth Fleet, to defend U.S., allied and partner interests.
