U.S. Army Master Sgt. Dan Westover, Army Mountain Warfare School, Vermont Army National Guard, descends the slope at Smuggler’s Notch Resort, Jeffersonville, Vt., Jan. 7, 2023. Westover and teammates spent the day preparing for Edelweiss Raid 2023 via alpine touring, or AT, through Underhill and Stowe areas near Vermont’s highest peak, Mount Mansfield. After sunset, the competitors skied multiple laps up and down Morse Mountain. The Edelweiss Raid is an international, military competition designed to test the alpine skills of mountain soldiers. The event intends to challenge soldiers, foster camaraderie, and build relations between mountain warfighters across the world. (U.S. Army photo by Staff Sgt. Barbara Pendl)
