    Then Spc. 4 Mike R. Vining participated in the destruction of the largest weapons and ammunition cache discovered during the U.S. military’s involvement in the Vietnam War. Vining and his fellow Army EOD techs destroyed the Rock Island East weapons cache with 300 cases of C4 explosives and created a mushroom cloud that could be seen from 50 miles away.
