Maj. Gen. Sean Gainey, Director, Joint C-UAS Office (JCO) and Director, Fires in the G3/5/7, HQ Department of the Army, presented Cpl. Nick Gautier, & Staff Sgt. Aaron Hensley with challenge coins in recognition of their outstanding performance while deployed in support of short-range air defense operations with the 5th Battalion, 4th Air Defense Artillery Regiment in southeast Poland.
Just days after the invasion began, Avenger short-range air defense Soldiers and equipment from 5th Battalion, 4th Air Defense Artillery Regiment deployed to multiple Allied countries in eastern Europe to assure our NATO Allies that we are committed to our obligations under Article 5, and to deter any potential acts of aggression against NATO.
The deployment of these air & missile defense systems is purely defensive. They contribute to the robust shielding provided along NATO’s Eastern flank.
