SOUTH CHINA SEA (DEC. 31, 2022) – U.S. Marines with Battalion Landing Team 2/4, 13th Expeditionary Unit, conduct rappel training aboard amphibious transport dock USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26), Dec, 31. A force in readiness, the 13th MEU trains to rapidly respond to crises in all domain environments through naval power projection. The 13th MEU is embarked with the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, comprised of amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) and amphibious transport dock ships USS Anchorage (LPD 23) and the John P. Murtha, and operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with Allies and partners and serve as a ready-response force to defend peace and maintain stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
