A soldier from the 3rd Infantry Division demonstrates to soldiers competing for their Exerpt Soldier Badge how to do a functions check with an FGM 148 Javelin, Fort Stewart, Georgia, Jan. 17, 2023. The Expert Soldier Badge is effectively the same as the Expert Infantryman Badge, introduced in 1943. Both badges are awarded to soldiers who pass a gamut of tests, including measurements of physical fitness, weapon proficiency, and land navigation.
