A soldier assigned to the 3rd Infantry Division fills out a casualty card after moving the casualty from indirect fire to compete for his Expert Soldier badge at Fort Stewart, GA on Jan. 23, 2023. The Expert Soldier Badge is effectively the same as the Expert Infantryman Badge, introduced in 1943. Both badges are awarded to soldiers who pass a gamut of tests, including measurements of physical fitness, weapon proficiency, and land navigation.
