U.S. Marines with Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron (HMLA) 169, Marine Aircraft Group 39, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing (MAW), load an AH-1Z Viper into a U.S. Air Force C-5 Galaxy from the 22nd Airlift Squadron, 60th Air Mobility Wing, on Marine Corps Air Station Camp Pendleton, California, Jan. 23, 2023, to transport them to North Carolina for a joint fires exercise. Embarking rotary wing aircraft into a C-5 Galaxy demonstrates joint and expeditionary logistical operations enabling offensive air support in austere environments, and validates HMLA operational concepts as lethal, networked, and persistent. 3rd MAW’s warfighting readiness directly enables aviation superiority in support of the Marine Air-Ground Task Force and joint operations.
