U.S. Marines with maritime raid force, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit conduct a safety brief, aboard the Amphibious Assault Ship USS America, before a simulated visit, board, search, and seizure exercise off the coast of Okinawa, Japan, Jan. 30, 2023. The training refines Marines’ skills in maritime interdiction by incorporating real world scenarios from room clearing to hostage rescue. The 31st MEU is operating aboard ships of the USS America Amphibious Ready Group in the 7th fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
