Sailors assigned to the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) participate in stretcher barrier training during a general quarters drill aboard the hangar bay in Newport News, Virginia, Feb. 2, 2023. George Washington is conducting a simulated underway to validate shipboard habitability and operational services to ensure the ship meets the final refueling and complex overhaul (RCOH) milestones. RCOH is a multi-year project performed only once during a carrier’s 50-year service life that includes refueling the ship’s two nuclear reactors, as well as significant repairs, upgrades, and modernization.
