U.S. Marine Corps Maj. Gen. Stephen E. Liszewski, commanding general of Marine Corps Installations Pacific, Marine Corps Base Camp Butler, simulates cutting a ribbon during a ribbon cutting ceremony rehearsal at Sabånan Fadang Burial Site on Camp Blaz, Guam, on Jan. 24, 2023. During the rehearsal ceremony Maj. Gen. Stephen E. Liszewski, commanding general of Marine Corps Installations Pacific, presented the memorial to Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero, Guam Governor, to symbolize the transfer of the memorial to the people of Guam. While MCB Camp Blaz will continue to care for the site, the memorial will be available for future public access. The Sabånan Fadang Burial Site is composed of seven grave sites that were preserved in place and comprises multiple individuals from the Latte Period to the very early Post-Contact Period. The burial site also includes a reinterment crypt for fragmentary remains discovered in the area during construction; these remains are assessed to be part of the ancient CHamoru village of Sabånan Fadang.
