Kahu Kordell Kekoa blesses a maile lei being held at the entrance of the dock. Its leaves are believed to protect, bestow good luck, and even possess healing powers. Maile lei's are used in grand openings to bring good luck.

Echoing the rich and diverse history of Pearl Harbor - both civilian and military personnel gathered together for a ceremonial blessing to welcome the newly completed dock at the Pearl Harbor National Memorial. The dock has been in need of repair over the last few years, and its renovation marks a turning point in the memorial sites’ history, ensuring the continuity of connecting the past to the present.
