Spc. Lauren Dennett, a saxophonist with the 39th Army Band, New Hampshire Army National Guard, performs a solo during “Old Time Rock and Roll” at the Ilopango Airshow in San Salvador, El Salvador, on Feb. 5.
Dennett, a music teacher at Strong Foundations Charter School in Pembroke, NH, and Sherwood Middle School in Shrewsbury, MA, was excited to go on her first trip with her unit.
“This mission to El Salvador was awesome because I have never played for that many people before, and I have never seen anything like that,” said Dennett. “I think we did a good job entertaining the audience and connecting with them through music. I think it’s important that the people of El Salvador see us as positive role models and know about us, the United States, and that we are here for them.”
