Cope North's Kick-Off ceremony took place on Andersen Air Force Base, Guam on Feb 6. Cope North is the U.S. Pacific Air Forces' largest multilateral exercise and brings together hundreds of military personnel from Japan, Australia and the U.S. every year.
The exercise has been conducted since 1978, and moved to Andersen Air Force Base in 1999. Attendees will be training in a variety of air operations and practice warfare scenarios, as well as training on a humanitarian assistance and disaster relief response.
In his opening address to the exercise participants, Joint Region Marianas Commander Rear Adm. Benjamin Nicholson said "I am a firm believer that to achieve success, teamwork and cooperation are vital. The experiences and techniques we share can only make each other stronger."
He added, "I am proud of the partnership that we have maintained over the years, and look forward to continued coordination to ensure that our forces are ready to respond, together."
