U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Brian W. Cavanaugh, the commanding general of Fleet Marine Force, Atlantic, Marine Forces Command, Marine Forces Northern Command, answers questions during a tour of the USS Mesa Verde (LPD 19), Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia, Feb. 15, 2023. Cavanaugh toured the ship to evaluate operational readiness impacts and to be provided a better understanding of the ship’s daily restraints. The San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship LPD 19 works in tandem with Marine Corps Marine Expeditionary Units due to it being specifically designed to accommodate Landing Craft, Air Cushions and a helicopter pad for littoral mobility.
