The NYPD 62nd Precinct Community Council, along with the Federation of Italian American Organizations, New Utrecht Library Friends, and Community Board 11, held a Meet and Greet on February 15, 2023, in Brooklyn, NY, to introduce the USAG Fort Hamilton's new Commander, Col Brian Jacobs to the community and strengthen ties between the only active-duty US Army installation in New York City area. The 62 Precinct serves a southwestern portion of Brooklyn, which borders parts of Fort Hamilton. The precinct is home to Bensonhurst, Mapleton, and Bath Beach.(U.S. Army photos by Mark Getman)

As the only active-duty US Army installation in New York City, USAG Fort Hamilton plays a vital role in the city's security and defense. Maintaining a good relationship between the military and the local community is crucial for both entities to work together effectively. Events like the Meet and Greet provide an opportunity for community members to engage with the military and build trust and understanding between the two groups.
Strengthening ties between USAG Fort Hamilton and the local community also benefits the military personnel stationed there. It helps to create a sense of belonging and support, especially for those who are far away from their families and friends. By fostering a positive relationship between the military and the community, it helps to alleviate some of the challenges and stressors that come with military life. The meet and greet event with Col Jacobs is an essential step towards building stronger ties between the military and the local community. This event represents a commitment to work together and support each other for the greater good of the community.
