U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Bob Hines, a NASA astronaut, tours Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Spatial Disorientation Training Lab at Daytona Beach, Florida, Feb. 18, 2023. The lab provides students the opportunity to experience visual and vestibular illusions that may occur during flight to educate students on awareness of these illusions and ways to avoid spatial disorientation. Hines visited Embry-Riddle to share the story of his career and recent space expedition to Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) cadets and students, while also touring the campus and learning the capabilities the university offers. Hines was selected by NASA to join the 2017 Astronaut Candidate Class where he served as a mission specialist on NASA’s SpaceX Crew-4 mission to the International Space Station for 170 days, which concluded in October of 2022.
