This is an Austin Moore Hemi-Hip prosthesis
manufactured by Howmedica, Inc. in the 1970s. This
type of prosthesis was invented by J. Austin Talley
Moore (1899-1963), Orthopedic Surgeon at the Moore
Orthopedic Clinic at Colombia University in New York
City and first implanted in 1950. It has a long stem for
cases where the patient suffered from metastatic bone
disease that compromised the femur. It was evaluated
by Dr. John Insall and Dr.Albert Burstein at the
Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, but
