Members of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) unfold an American flag over a casket housing the remains of an unknown service member during a disinterment ceremony at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Hawaii, March 7, 2023. The ceremony was part of DPAA’s efforts to disinter the remains of unknown service members lost during World War II. The remains will be taken to the DPAA laboratory for further analysis in hopes of identifying the remains to provide answers to families of the missing.
