The employees with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Miami Dade County conducted a charette with interested stakeholders to look at how best to help minimize the impacts of coastal storms to the area. Attendees looked over maps, discussed natural and nature-based features, nonstructural and structural means to help reduce risk to critical infrastructure and residents who are along the coast. Additional meetings with residents and stakeholders are planned to help further refine the details. The ideas must be presented to the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works for a decision to proceed with the feasibility study to determine if there is federal interest on partnering on a plan and what measures would be used to accomplish risk reduction.
