A certificate and coin presented to honor the Zena family who helped rescue and house the members of the 807th Medical Air Evacuation Transport Squadron in November of 1943, after their C-47 transport plane was shot down behind enemy lines in Nazi-occupied Albania during World War II. All 26 members of the squadron, made up of flight nurses, medics, technicians, and pilots, survived the crash and endured harsh winter conditions as they trekked through the mountains of Albania for over two years, hiding from enemy forces, until they could safely reach the Adriatic Coast and were rescued by OSS Agent Lloyd Smith and British operatives on January 9, 1945.
