Ponce, Puerto Rico, Jan. 4, 2022 - We remain focused on the recovery of communities impacted by the 2020 earthquakes. Two years after the seismic sequence that affected Puerto Rico, the recovery process continues with the approval of over $523 million for more than 518 projects in 14 municipalities in the southern, western and central areas of the island. These projects include repairing and rebuilding schools, public buildings, roads, removing rubble and demolishing private property. Among the structures most damaged by earthquakes are schools in the area, many of which had the structural problem of short columns that makes them vulnerable to seismic events.
