On Feb. 27, 2023 in Kerrville Texas, retired Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer Donald Peppard displays the shoes he wore the day he was released from captivity in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. Chief Peppard, a cryptologic technician aboard the USS Pueblo AGRS 2 (Auxiliary Governmental Research Ship 2), and 82 crew members spent 11 months in captivity and were released on Dec. 23,1968. The Pueblo was boarded and Captured in international waters on Jan. 23, 1968 and is still in the custody of the DPRK. (U.S. Air Force Photo by Jonathan Mallard)
