Sailors steady a fueling hose during a fueling-at-sea (FAS) with guided-missile destroyer USS Chung Hoon (DDG 93) aboard amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), March 15, 2023 in the South China Sea. Makin Island directed all commands involved in the FAS, representing one aspect of the unique value of amphibious capability of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) team to operate seamlessly and simultaneously on the sea, ashore, and in the air. Makin Island and Chung Hoon of Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 11 are operating in the 7th Fleet area of operations, the U.S. Navy's largest forward-deployed numbered fleet, routinely operating with Allies and partners in preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
