The Missile Defense Agency (MDA) hosted a tour of the Sea-Based X-band Radar (SBX) on Ford Island at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, March 2, 2023. Members of local media were given the opportunity to tour the SBX-1, known to the locals as the giant “golf ball”. After a record 662 days at sea, the SBX-1 is undergoing regular maintenance and system upgrades. According to the MDA, the SBX-1 is the world’s largest, most powerful mobile radar of its kind.
